Team Unity hosts meet up on product management

The Unity team in Chennai organized the 3rd edition of the technology meet up focusing on Product Management.
This event was attended by practicing product managers, technologists interested in pursuing a career in product management and students.
The meet up was kick started by Arthi Makhija, Sr. Director, EServ Platforms, PayPal who shared her career journey and emphasized the need for product managers to follow a non-linear career path. She shared her own experience wherein she started with risk ops before moving to fraud analytics and then joined PayPal. Arthi spoke about how each of the roles prepared her to succeed in her current role. She also emphasized the need for diversity as the role of a product manager requires one to deal with ambiguity and wear multiple hats in order to deliver stellar products.
Savitha Ajitraj, Product Manager, PayPal spoke on the
Role of Product Management in the Software Value Chain
. She discussed how a product manager defines the strategy, vision and roadmap for a product and works with cross-functional teams for a successful launch. Using the example of sustainable lead generation for real estate, Savitha drew the audience into a discussion about what a product manager needs to be cognizant about including reaching out to prospective customers who are not active on social media.
Sarathy Rajagopalan, Director, Product Management, PayPal lead a session titled-
Navigating Your Product Career
. In an interactive and engaging manner, he talked about the various roles in product management such as CPO and PO and about the skills and personal attributes required to be successful. He emphasized on the need for a strong technical background and also shared advice on what technology professionals aspiring to become product managers can expect and be prepared for.
Bhargavi Mohan and Anitha Lakshminarayanan,Senior Product Managers took the audience into a journey on
Next Gen Product
. They spoke about the role of disruption in fostering digital innovation and briefly covered some of the key technologies spurring innovation in the fintech sector today.
Sathish Vaidyanathan, Director of Engineering, PayPal delivered the closing address. Sathish engaged the participants in an enthusiastic discussion on what it will take India to become a great product nation.
The lunch and 'Ask Me Anything' sessions gave the participants an opportunity to interact with each other and PayPal India leaders and product managers.
