Empowering Women Entrepreneurs of the future

The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of technology, helping organizations operate with higher levels of efficiency. NGOs have realized the benefits of technology to improve service delivery, develop new interventions and scale projects.

One such NGOs is Pushp-Kiran Union for Real Enlightenment (PURE India Trust). Established in March 2013, the NGO aims to provide quality education & employment opportunities to under-served communities residing in the rural & urban slums. Their focus is on women empowerment, providing education for all, skill development, career mentoring, and adopting schools.

One of PURE India Trust’s social welfare programs, centered around women empowerment, required them to collect personal details of the women who were enrolled for the programme. The organization had been doing this manually by collecting the data in-person from across different regions and then filling them into excel sheets which were then shared centrally and integrated by the periodically. This not only made the process cumbersome but increased the risk of compromising the legitimacy and validity of the data.

The NGO needed a digital platform that would enable them store and organize data in an efficient manner. PayPal’s engineers got together to curate a platform that would address the issue and help streamline processes. A team of six devised a solution to standardize and maintain the data. This enabled PURE India Trust to insert new data through the web user interface concurrently at any time, rectify/ update any existing data, and search based on defined identifiers. Through this new system, reports could be generated at real time with updated information.  

It was truly an enriching experience for our team at PayPal, to be able to leverage their skills and experience for the greater good. During the entire process of generating and stationing the solution, our team collaborated closely with the team from PURE India Trust and monitored the progress and resolved issues as they occurred. They also made periodic visits which enabled them to discuss developments and challenges.
